Past
Thanks to the generous donations throughout the years we were able to fund special events, always greatly received by the clients.
6 Jan 2025 Fruit Salad Gift Bags We were able deliver to 193 senior households. We still have to do a final revision of our master list but our contact list is now 215. With a decline of 8 names from last time we had an estimated 81 new names added. As per usual we had a number of people who were not home. Since there is a limited shelf life the deliverers had to move on. If someone didn’t get one this time, they have been flagged to be at top of list for next time.We are very grateful for Open Arm’s offering us to use their facility. This charity endeavor has grown and access to an appropriate venue was critical. Without Open Arms amazing volunteers and the great space to set up the production line, we would not have been able to improve our ability to serve. Between the two organizations we had a team of over 20 volunteers. We also had some volunteer drivers that were a great help. The preparation itself is an activity that participants all enjoyed doing. Furthermore, those delivering enjoyed the many smiles and appreciative recipients.
Spring 2024 Fruit Salad Gift Bags
We did spring "Fruit Salad Gift Bag" initiative in April 2024. We managed to deliver to a total of 121 senior households this time. At Christmas we did 80. Also we amazingly had a great team of volunteers to process the fruit and some others who also helped deliver. We missed a few people from our Christmas list. Some didn't answer, one was in hospital, a couple were out of province, etc. Due to short shelf life we had to deliver. We will attempt to put those who missed out this time ahead of the list for the next initiative. We were given 55 new households to add to the list this time. Thanks to those people who suggested these new seniors, we now have 149 households on our list.
On the 29th of Dec 2023 we completed delivery of our of fresh fruit salad gift bags. In three waves we delivered to 80 different residences. There were another 9 people we couldn't deliver to as they were either sick with flu, away on vacation or was no answer. For our next initiative we plan to call in advance so that we will more effectively and efficiently serve.
This initiative was also supported, in part, with a generous grant from the Community Links Association and the Nova Scotia Department of Seniors and Long Term Care. They enabled us to purchase an Epson Color Ecotank printer (e.g. labels on gift bags, ingredient list ) and a portion was allowed for the fruit purchase. Their grant will also be used towards an upcoming meal (mid April 2024), and an exciting craft initiative to be announced soon.
Thanks again to volunteers Becky Henwood (Wave 1), Cyril Yorke (Wave 2) and board members Marlene Quinn and Eden Bard (Wave 3).
Thank you for all the inspiring positive input and feedback given for this initiative.
